Class Description: Green and unique! This trend is hot, hot, hot! There will be a brief discussion followed by a HANDS-ON workshop for creating one-of-a-kind artwear, accessories, and other wearable items using all recycled materials including clothing, household items, notions, and other tidbits.

Skill Level: All brave souls of ANY LEVEL willing to embrace up-cycling, re-cycling, BI-cycling!

Materials Fee: $25.00 (Includes all materials needed for the class plus snack, notebook, and tote bag, handouts, samples of yarn and felted sweaters, beads, buttons, etc.)
Students to Bring: Standard “travel kit”…scissors, safety pins, tape measure, crochet hook (size H)

Fiber Artist Kathy Hartmeister lives in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, northwest of Denver. She is a custom designer and fabricator of unique canvas products, a professional calligrapher and most especially a prolific and passionate knitter.
Kathy works with all types of natural fibers, including the wool from her own small llama herd. Many of her original hand knit pieces have won recognition at county and state fairs, juried, international gallery shows and wool markets across the country. In October of 2003, she won the coveted silver medallion in Taos, New Mexico for her crocheted llama wool coat entitled “Great Divide”.
Kathy is a member of the Knitter’s Guild of America, The Rocky Mountain Llama Association, the Northern Colorado Weavers Guild and the Boulder Handweavers Guild, the “Jakimas”, a group of artists who have studied with weavers in remote Peruvian villages, and The Mountain and Valley Wool Growers Association.
Kathy has also studied with Valentina Devine, Vicki Square, Sydna Farley and is a master knitter and crocheter through the extension agency’s national program.
She has worked on designs and prototypes specifically for Switzerland Alpacas, Altiplano Insulation, Degenhart Merinos, Stargazer Alpacas and her own company “OpPaLlandet” (which means “Up in the country”). In 2002 she began knitting sample garments for the Brown Sheep Yarn Company’s traveling trunk shows.
Kathy volunteers her time and talents to community events, gallery shows and fiber related education endeavors, including teaching school children the basics of design and fabrication. Kathy’s work is inspired by her many travels, and by the natural setting in which she lives. She is committed to the animals and creating useful, practical, yet beautiful art pieces for everyday life.
