Class Description: In this class, Colorado Children’s Book author Joanna Johnson will teach you a very easy color work pattern from her picture book, Freddie’s Blanket. If you know how to cast on, knit, and purl, you can learn this simple super fun technique! Once you have taken this class, you will understand bubble stitch and brick stitch – a whole world of fun mosaic knitting which only uses one color of yarn per row. You will be making one of three sizes of Freddie’s Blanket from the book.
Skill Level: Strong Beginner and up
Maximum Class Size: 12
Students to Bring: 1-2 skeins each of 3 colors Brown Sheep Serendipity Tweed yarn and size 5 and size 7 needles.

Toy 12” square, Baby- 32“ square, Child- 40” square
Yarn
Brown Sheep Serendipity Tweed, 60% cotton, 40% wool, 210 yards per 100 grams
Color A- Yellow Buttercup 1 [2, 3] skeins
Color B- Teal Orchid 1 [1, 2] skeins
Color C- Oregano Leaves 1 [1, 2] skeins
Needles
US size 5 and 7 circular needles about 32” long (straight needles or shorter circulars are fine for the toy version)
Gauge
20 sts over 4 inches in stockinette stitch on size US 7 needles
Pattern
Using size 5 needle and color A, CO 63[159, 199] sts.
Knit 6 rows.
We will start the class at this point, so please CO for your correct size and work the first 6 rows.

Slate Falls Press is an independent press founded by Eric and Joanna Johnson. They work from their home-based studios at the foot of the Colorado Rocky Mountains. Joanna has a B.A. in Literature from Drew University and has greatly enjoyed writing the stories and designing the knitting patterns for their knitting picture books. Her husband Eric has B.F.A. in commercial design from Kutztown University. After working for two decades as sign writer, muralist, and graphic artist, he has really enjoyed returning to his childhood love of drawing by illustrating Phoebe’s Sweater and Freddie’s Blanket. Eric and Joanna live in Colorado with their three children, who offer continual inspiration for their stories.
