Planning for the fourth annual Scottsbluff Valley Fiber Arts Fair is in full swing. Though it’s still early spring, the Fair Board has been working hard to ensure that this year’s Fiber Fair is our best ever!

There are some changes to report for this year, most notably our move from a one to a two day event, and secondly a change in our location. As we’re still growing and stretching our wings, we thought this would be a good opportunity to try to grow our attendance by having the fair located in a more centralized location in our region, the Monument Mall, right in Scottsbluff. The mall is located just across the highway from The Harms Center, where all of our classes are being taught. There will not be an admittance charge for attending the Fiber Fair, and there are many restaurants located near inside and near the mall for your eating enjoyment.

Along with the new location, we are happy to report that this year’s Huskers game will be broadcast in center court of the mall for the 1:00 p.m. game. This will be nice for families that come together; maybe we can get some more shopping in before the rest of the family needs to be home to watch the game!

We have so many great classes being offered from excellent instructors. Take a few moments to read through our class offerings this year; we’re just sure you’ll find one that you would enjoy! If you have any questions about class requirements, be sure to drop us a note in the “Contact” section of this website. We’ll be sure to answer your questions promptly so that you can get registered right away.

Though the Fiber Fair is still months away, really it’s right around the corner. We’ll keep you posted on all the latest developments. See you in September!

Class Description: Learn to make several different soaps from scratch. This process is extremely easy but it should be experienced first in a class-room setting as there are some risks and safety measures to know about. We will work from my own recipe book to make 2 kinds of soap: the old fashioned pioneer soap and a new vegetarian bar soap with fun additives. These soaps will be formulated specifically for use on your fine fibers and fleece, but can also be used in your shower – you’ll love them so much.

Because the soaps made in class can’t be cut and won’t cure for several weeks, you will be given bars of ‘cured’ soap like those made in class to take home with you, your recipe book with all instructions, and we’ll even play with French-milling to satisfy your scent and ingredient desires for another 2 bars to take home.

Please wear old clothes with full sleeves and long pants, closed-toed shoes.

Please look to www.naturacolorado.com to see what is possible in this workshop.

Skill Level: No experience necessary – just be open to having lots of fun in a group setting

Maximum Class Size: 16-Due to nature of materials being used, only students 18 yrs. and older please

Students to Bring: Pencil for taking notes; calculator.

Homework to be complete BEFORE class: None
